Dengue cases on the rise in Bhubaneswar

Cuttack has witnessed rise in the dengue cases. “Our dengue volunteers are visiting different houses in the affected areas to eliminate the sources of breeding of aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which help in spreading dengue virus . Though the state government claims that it takes several measures to control dengue disease, positive cases have crossed 650 mark so far.Around 300 cases have been reported from the city between August 9 and September 3.

It had witnessed 357 dengue positive cases till August 9, 428 cases on August 17 and 523 on August 25. With this the city has recorded the highest cases of the season among other parts of the state, health department sources said. Cuttack has witnessed rise in the dengue cases. The number was 397 cases on August 25, but it increased to 489. The virus has spread its tentacles to new places like Jagatsinghpur district . It has witnessed 293 cases, the third highest dengue positive area in the state followed by Rayagada 171 and Kalahandi 158.Last month, Ladugaon and its nearby villages in Kalahandi district had reported more than 100 cases. The state government swung into action and set up health camps to test and treat the affected patients.With this, state’s dengue cases increased to 2,563 this year. More than 600 cases have been reported during last 15 days. Three people have been died so far due to dengue in the state this year, health official sources said.Anita Patnaik, director of health services of the state, said the state government is taking all measures to control the disease. “Our dengue volunteers are visiting different houses in the affected areas to eliminate the sources of breeding of aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which help in spreading dengue virus . They also enquire about people with fever and help them to collect blood samples for test. We also deploy team to cut bushes and conduct fogging exercise,” she added.
