Protest over delay in housing projects

  • | Wednesday | 20th November, 2024

Protesting against the non-completion of dwellings, a crowd, including women and children, agitated at the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters in the state capital on Monday. The protesters said they were under severe financial strain, as they were forced to pay both rent and housing loan installments due to delays in the completion of the buildings. The protesters claimed that despite repeated reminders, the housing project—being built by the BMC—was still nowhere near completion. The project in question, located at 12 No. Bus Stop, commenced in 2017. The houses were allotted by the civic body to buyers who, in turn, opted for housing loans to pay for the premises. The protesters said that the civic body had earlier promised that the houses would be completed by Diwali. Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan assured that the project, along with several others under construction, would soon be completed and that beneficiaries would be handed over their homes at the earliest.Later in the day, Narayan visited the housing projects at 12 No. Bus Stop and Bagh Mughalia and issued instructions for the timely completion of pending work, including the installation of electricity transformers at the two sites.
