BMC imposes spot fine on city jeweller, contractor for litter

Taking a strict view of negligence regarding civic guidelines, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday levied a spot fine on a jeweller in the Kolar area and a railway contractor. BMC officials imposed a Rs. 10,000 fine on the jeweller for dumping thermocol sheets and other packing materials on the Chuna Bhatti six-lane road, while the railway contractor was fined Rs. 500 after municipal workers discovered him burning green waste. Acting on the directives of Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan, the fine in the Kolar area was imposed after the health department of Zone-8 found a dumper filled with thermocol and other waste during an inspection last night on Chuna Bhatti Six-Lane Road. Upon investigation, it was discovered that this waste was discarded by employees of Agarwal Jewellers, located at Anmol Tower, leading to a spot fine of Rs. 10,000 on the jeweller. Furthermore, a complaint was received from the Assistant Health Officer of Zone-9 regarding the railway contractor collecting and burning green waste. Consequently, a spot fine of Rs. 500 was levied on the contractor.The municipal corporation has been advising establishments to ensure that waste is handed over to waste collection vehicles and that bulk waste should be disposed of at the waste transfer station by paying the applicable fees.
