MKVVCL says no to shops around electricity poles

  • | Wednesday | 16th October, 2024

In a bid to minimize electricity-related accidents, the central region power distributor on Monday said it will soon initiate action against shops being set up under and around electricity poles. Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company (MKVVCL) has stated that the practice of parking handcarts and encroachments by hawkers continues to pose hazards around electricity distribution poles and transformers. The company said it will take action against errant shopkeepers who continue to pose such risks to themselves and others. In an advisory, the power distributor has called for the immediate removal of such businesses from under and around its poles and warned that a refusal to heed the directives will lead to penalties. Giving rise to safety concerns, a host of vegetable sellers and fast-food stalls have set up shop around electric poles, and the power distribution company faces criticism if such practices lead to short circuits or other accidents.
