Stop promoting specific shops for books, uniforms: DEO

  • | Thursday | 10th October, 2024

Issuing an advisory, the district education department on Tuesday asked all schools to refrain from the practice of promoting handpicked business establishments. The orders, issued by District Education Officer (DEO) Narendra Kumar Ahirwar reiterated earlier orders while advising CBSE, ICSE, Secondary and Higher Secondary schools to ensure that parents and guardians are not forced to purchase school books, and uniforms from specific establishments. The DEO move brings substantial relief to parents as the matter has long remained a bone of contention between schools and guardians. While schools say that they only direct parents to specific establishments to ensure availability of the syllabi, parents have repeatedly accused schools of indulging in the unfair practice to earn commissions from these sellers. The DEO has asked for strict adherence to the advisory, failing which disciplinary action maybe initiated against the erring institutions.Earlier, many schools used to sell books and uniforms on campus before court directives prohibited such transactions between educational institutions and students.
