Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company, an undertaking of the Urban Development and Housing Department, is carrying out the work of water augmentation project in Burhanpur with the support of the World Bank, which is nearing completion. An intake-well has been installed on the Tapti river to provide clean water to the city residents. At the same time, a water purification plant of 50 MLD capacity has also been installed to purify the water. Availability of purified water will also reduce the risk of water-borne diseases. 8 overhead tanks have been built for water storage, as well as the existing 4 over tanks will also be used for water storage. A 296 km distribution pipeline has been laid to deliver water to every house. The work of providing tap connections has also started. So far, a total of more than 35 thousand tap connections have been given. Under Burhanpur water augmentation project, water is being supplied daily in the new pipeline through the new water supply system in zone number 5 Shivaji Nagar, zone number 6 Marichika Garden and zone number 10 Indira Colony through water augmentation project and the old water supply system has been completely shut down by the Municipal Corporation. At the same time, water is being supplied daily under water augmentation project in zone number 1 Subhash School, zone number 2 Kila and zone number 3 and the process of shutting down the old system is also going on. In the remaining 4 zones of the project, including zone number 4 Lalbagh, zone number 8A Transport Nagar, zone number 8B Sindhipura, zone number 9 Azad Nagar, about 80 percent area has been covered by water supply under water augmentation project and the work of commissioning the remaining is in progress.
