Chief Minister Mohan Yadav today unveiled the statue of martyr Amrita Devi Vishnoi in Indore. The statue of martyr Amrita Devi has been built in the City Forest of Indore at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. In the unveiling programme, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that I salute the sacrifice of martyr Amrita Devi Vishnoi and others. He said that martyr Amrita Devi is an example of sacrifice and selflessness in the world. Yadav said that martyr Amrita Devi and her daughters happily sacrificed themselves to save forests and trees. This sacrifice of theirs has a distinctidentity in the world and gives a great learning to the world that how a movement was carried out for environmental protection even 300 years ago. The CM thanked the entire Vishnoi community for the sacrifice of martyr Amrita Devi for environmental protection. Speaking at the event, former Minister Ajay Vishnoi said that Shaheed Amrita Devi was a brave woman from Khejadli village in Rajasthan. She sacrificed her life at the altar of Vishnoi religion. In the year 1730, Amrita Devi Vishnoi sacrificed her life along with her three daughters Aasu, Ratni and Bhagu to save green trees from being cut at a place called Khejadli in Marwar, Rajasthan. Along with them, more than 363 other Vishnois were martyred to save the trees. Shaheed Amrita Devi protested against the king, as he attempted to cut green trees which were prohibited in Vishnoi religion. The malevolent feudal party told her that if she wanted the trees to be spared, she should give them money as bribe. She refused to accept this demand and told them that she would consider it an act of ignorance and an insult to her religious belief. She said that she would give her life to save the green trees.
