366 children examined in a health camp

Dr Narendra Chaudhary, Additional Professor, Pediatrics, AIIMS Bhopal, participated in an outreach health checkup camp across the border of the state of MP at Govt Higher Secondary School, Akarsada, District Bhilwara, Rajasthan. The camp was organised on August 16-17, 2024, by the GSS Akarsada Alumni Association with the help of villagers and school staff. 366 children were screened over 2 days, of which 50% were girls. Anaemia was found in only 7% of children as healthcare workers regularly supplemented iron, folic acid, and anti-worm medications. About 12% were short, and 14% were underweight. Dental hygiene was poor in many children though caries was found in only 10 children. They were advised about good dental and mental health apart from physical well-being. A total of 57 children were planned for further workup or referral. One was suspected to have congenital heart disease, one had varicocele, and one had genetic syndrome to be worked up at AIIMS Bhopal.
