Two out of 8 sluice valves of Kolar Dam near Bhopal have been opened in the morning. The gates were opened when the water level of Kolar Dam Veerpur increased to 458.70 meters. Harsha Jainwal, Executive Engineer of Kolar Canal Division, said, both the gates of Kolar Dam have been opened 40-40 centimeters. Kolar Dam is in Sehore district, but half of Bhopals population gets drinking water from here. The full tank level of Kolar is 462 meters. The special thing is that the gates of Kolar Dam were opened on July 21 (Sunday) last year and July 28 (Sunday) this year. Here, the water level of Upper Lake  in Bhopal has reached 1665.00 feet. The full tank level is 1.80 feet empty. As soon as the water level reaches 1666.80 feet, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam will be opened. After the water was released from the dam, the Water Resources Department has already alerted the people of Kolar river and nearby villages. Even after this, the inflow of water continued. Due to heavy rains, the gates of the dam have been opened to maintain the water level. Tourists are arriving to see the water flowing from the dam gate. Employees of the Water Resources Department are preventing people from going near the water. All roads have been closed. Kolar Dam is in Sehore district, but half of Bhopals population gets drinking water from here. It has been raining intermittently in  Bhopal since Sunday morning. Roads in many areas have submerged in water. Due to heavy rains in the catchment area and the Kolans river flowing above the level, the water in Upper Lake  is increasing rapidly. On Sunday morning, the level has reached 1665.00 feet. That is, the pond is only 1.80 feet empty. Due to good inflow of water, it is being monitored every moment. On Saturday, Mayor Malti Rai, MIC member Ravindra Yati and other public representatives reached Bhadbhada Dam and inquired about the water level. MIC member Yati said, if there is continuous heavy rain for 2 to 3 hours, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam can be opened. Preparations for this are complete. Public announcement will also be made in the surrounding areas. The water of Kolans river reaches the big pond. When the pond is full, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam are opened. After this, the gates of Kaliyasot Dam will also open. Let us tell you that Kolans, Bada Talab, Bhadbhada and Kaliyasot Dams are connected to each other. If water falls continuously, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam can be opened even before it reaches the full tank level. This time the Bhopal monsoon entered on 23 June. Since then the rain continues. Due to this, about 60 percent of the rain has occurred in a month itself. The total normal rainfall in Bhopal is 37.6 inches. In comparison, 22.5 inches of water has fallen so far. Close to the July quota of rain If we look at the data of the last 10 years, this is the lowest rainfall in 10 years. The maximum rainfall of 33.6 inches was recorded in the years 2015 and 2022, while 6.1 inches of rain fell in 2020. This time 13.6 inches of rain has already occurred. An average of 14.4 inches of water falls in Bhopal in July. Now as soon as one inch of rain falls, the quota of July will also be completed.
