Bareilly: The Bareilly Development Authority (BDA), along with the district administration and police, launched an eviction drive at Math Laxmipur, a commercial yojana under BDA, located at Mini Bypass. BDA officials said that more than 250-300 square-metre of BDA’s land was under unauthorised possession of liquor shops, scrap dealers, wholesale concrete shops etc. They were all demolished.Speaking to TOI, BDA secretary AK Singh said, “The Math Laxmipur Yojana is sprawling over 16,000 square-metre land in Mini Bypass area on Rampur road. BDA had only earmarked around 72 square-metre of land for the commercial purpose in 2002. However, the land under the yojana later became prone to encroachments. Around 250-300 square-metre land was illegally occupied by local vendors and shopkeepers over the years. To free the land from encroachments, eviction drive was launched and the permanent structures that were built illegally without BDA’s consent were razed. Since the land is situated at a prime location near Mini Bypass, it is still prone to illegal occupation.”Singh added, “We wrote to the district administration regarding the rampant encroachments on BDA land following which, a joint demolition drive was launched in the affected area. Three liquor shops, unauthorized scrap shops, around six wholesale shops of construction material etc were demolished. Executive engineers, superintending engineers, junior engineers, other BDA staff members along with around 20 policemen from Izzatnagar police station were present during the demolition drive.”Earlier, BDA had initiated sealing and demolition process on one lakh square-metre land in the green belt area near Bara Bypass. It was illegally occupied for setting up of residential colonies. Unauthorised store rooms and boundary walls of as many as 250 plots were demolished by BDA. BDA had also asked power department not to grant power connection to the defaulters who had occupied land in the green belt area.
