Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Gajanan Taur, a criminal on police record, was shot in the busy Mantha Crossroad in Jalna on Monday afternoon. Before dying, Taur managed to stab and injure one of the six attackers.Taur, who had 16 criminal cases of murder, attempt to murder and kidnap registered against him at different police stations, gained notoreity over the past few years while changing political loyalties from time to time. The incident took place when Taur, driving a four-wheeler, spotted the suspects at the Mantha Crossroad. He parked his car and approached the six men and violence broke out. SP Shailesh Balkawade said, We have managed to nab two of the suspects. Multiple teams have been sent out track down the other four suspects including the one who was stabbed. The motive of the attack would be clear only after their arrests. On learning about the incident, Balkawade, additional SP Ayush Nopany and the personnel of local crime branch and area police station reached the spot. Sources said the police teams, while carrying the spot panchanma, found five empty shells of the rounds fired and a sharp-edged weapon. Nopany added: Prima facie, it appears that the accused and the deceased knew each other. After the incident, Taur was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Two of the suspects were trying to flee, but were arrested. Later, for an in-camera autopsy, Taurs body was brought to the city-based Government Medical College and Hospital. The autopsy revealed that he sustained at least three bullet injuries. Ajay, also known as Ganja, was accused of being involved in a snatching and robbery case near Macchi Market. Ajay, accompanied by his friend Akash, attempted to flee upon seeing the police. During the confrontation, Ajay brandished a knife and stabbed Bhupender in the chest and hand. Akash was apprehended, but Ajay managed to escape. Bhupender is hospitalized and in stable condition. Police are searching for Ajay, who is implicated in multiple cases.
