Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The state home department on Monday granted its administrative approval to increase the intake capacity of the 10 police training centres in Maharashtra. These police training schools can increase their intake by a total of 5,000 trainees, which is 60% of the existing intake capacity. Each year, the Maharashtra Police, through additional director general of police (training) office, imparts training to thousands of cadets who are recruited as constables. The 10 training centres impart basic training to the newly recruited policeconstables and driver constables. The capacity of these 10 centres currently is 8,400. The capacity has been increased to 13,400.The decision is based on a proposal forwarded by the ADG training directorate on October 18, 2023. The directorate proposed that the capacity of five training centres — Marol in Mumbai, Nanvij-Daund in Pune, Solapur, Jalna and Nagpur — which have an intake capacity of 4,900, be increased to 7,400. Moreover, it was proposed that the capacity of the training centres in Khandala, Turchi (Sangli), Babhulgaon (Latur), Dhule and Akola also be increased from 3,500 to 6,000. Senior police officers said newly recruited police constables and driver constables take one and a half years to complete their basic training. The completion of the recruitment process also takes six months. This means one recruitment cycle lasts two years. During this two-year period, 12,000-15,000 new posts of police constables and driver constables get vacant. Accordingly, a large number of recruitments are made. At present, as the basic training of the constables recruited in 2023 is going on in all the training centres, the in-service training of officers has been interrupted. In the future, to complete the basic training of the newly appointed constables and provide in-service training to the officers at the same time, the intake has been increased. We also published the following articles recentlyTrain firing: Police, victims wife oppose sacked RPF constables bail; cite grudge against a communityDismissed RPF constable Chetansinh Chaudhary, accused of killing his senior colleague and three passengers on a moving train, appears to have harboured "anger and grudge" towards a particular community and showed no remorse for the crime committed.
