So, think about your children before giving me marks.)* “Guruji agar main fail hua to desh fail hoga, kyunki aap ek hone wale jawan ko fail karoge. Then who will guard the country’s frontiers?)Allahabad: As the country sings paeans about the courage and bravery of our soldiers after the Pulwama terror strike, it appears like the wave of patriotism has inspired Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) class X and XII students into using emotional appeals to request their teachers for more marks. UP Board teachers said that they have been coming across several marksheets wherein students have urged them to give them more marks as they want to join the Indian armed forces.“The trend of students giving silly answers or leaving answer sheets blank continued even this year. In many answersheets, especially for examinations conducted after the Pulwama terror attack, students have tried to tug at the teachers’ emotional side by writing such answers,” said a UP Board evaluator, preferring anonymity. The UP Board examinations for class X and XII started simultaneously on February 2 and concluded on March 2. This year, around 6 lakh students missed the examinations. Mukesh Tripathi, another UP Board evaluator, said, “Majority of such answers were found in answersheets of english, physics, Hindi and chemistry exams. This year too, some students wrote about newly released movies and even poems for answers.”Tripathi said that as per the norms, teachers give marks for various steps of an answers. “However, students don’t study adequately for examinations and fail to take advantage of a lenient marking scheme. Instead they come up with such absurd answers,” he added.District inspector of school (DIoS) RN Viswakarma, said, “The answersheets are being evaluated under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Mobile phones have been banned inside the centres so that teachers are not able to collect currency notes that examinees often attach with the answer sheets.”
