India is one of the top growing economies in the world and its contributions to different fields such as science, technology, etc are numerous. Despite it being one of the top growing countries in the world, different sectors in the country are lagging behind and one of those sectors is the sector of health and medicine.
Although the government of India has introduced several digital initiatives and reforms in the country that are improving the progress in the countries, still healthcare is far behind the global level. Today, we will be having a look at some of the ways how technology can transform the healthcare system in India:
Improved Accessibility
A large number of people in the country don’t have access to the best healthcare in the country. For instance, people who are living in rural areas have to travel a long distance to get quality care. However, with the help of technology, this gap can be bridged. With the help of teleconsultation, doctors and patients can be brought closer with the help of technology.
The use of smartphones also makes it easier for patients to stay in touch and interact with their doctors directly. Through the use of smartphones, patients can get prescriptions from the doctors digitally which will allow them to receive timely treatment and medication. Plus, through smartphones and technology, patients can directly share their reports or if the report is in any other form such as Excel or JPG then using the Excel to PDF converter convert it into PDF or using the JPG to PDF converter to convert it into PDF and then send it to the doctor/physician.
Improved Patient Experience
Technology can also improve the patient experience because those days are long gone when long waiting times, canceled appointments, and no follow-up reminders created hurdles for patients. Technology has changed all of this and now patients can use mobile apps to book appointments, order medicine, tests, etc.
Different tech companies have even come out and created different end-to-end systems for hospitals and even for clinics to make it easier for both parties. Even in India, there are e-pharmacy platforms that allow patients to buy their medicines online, book doctor appointments, book lab tests, etc. This improvement in patient experience is definitely a huge transformation in the Indian healthcare system.
Better Medical Adherence
With the help of technology, medical adherence can be improved substantially in the country. According to an AIIMS paper, medical adherence among patients is very low and more than 24% of CVD patients & 50-80% of hypertensive patients show a low medical adherence, which basically means the extent to which patients take the prescribed medicine.
Because of low medical adherence, the same patients develop complications and they are readmitted to the same hospital and the same wards again which creates problems for them. In Western countries, the use of technology has improved medical adherence and there are now gadgets such as wearable devices and mobile apps that remind patients to exercise, pls, an integrated system that collects real-time data from the patients makes it all easier to follow the prescribed medicines and diet.
In India, this problem of low medical adherence can be fixed to a very large extent with the use of technology in the medical & health sector.
Reduction In Costs
Technology can also help to reduce the costs in the country, especially in the field of health and medical care. The increasing rate of inflation and the increasing costs of equipment, operations, and other processes have made healthcare unaffordable for patients and to make things even worse, most of the citizens don’t even have health insurance that can help pay for their medical treatment.
With the help of scalable technology, hospitals can reduce their operational costs, for instance, the use of the cloud can reduce the operational costs of hospitals which would make healthcare a bit affordable for patients. Along with this, it will also reduce the burden on the hospital staff because, with the help of technology, certain processes can be automated.
