Covid-19 has gotten almost the whole planet in the habit of washing their hands and using sanitisers constantly. As these are essential, there can be a slight disadvantage of this habit. The skin after being constantly exposed to strong chemicals and alcohols in the sanitiser can lose its softness.
To retain the soft skin and get relief from the dry skin, follow the tips below:
Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds in lukewarm water: Use soap, and wash every part of your hands, including between your fingers and around your nails. Try washing hands over using sanitisers if possible. Use hand wash which are milder and for sensitive skin.
Dry your hands with a clean towel but leave some water on them. You can also let your hands air dry. While your hands are slightly damp, apply your hand cream or ointment.
Apply hand cream or ointment to your skin, making sure you work some of the moisturizers into your fingertips and nails. Dermatologists recommend using a hand cream or ointment that: Contains mineral oil or petrolatum, comes in a tube rather than a pump and have less harsh chemical content in them
Apply moisturiser even after using hand sanitiser, apply your hand cream or ointment immediately after the hand sanitiser dries. This should be done as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends using a hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol to kill germs, hand sanitiser can be very drying.
Use sugar and honey mix to scrub the dry skin, mix equal parts crushed sugar and honey, apply in the hands and scrub thoroughly, rinse the hands with lukewarm water and moisturise immediately. Do this only twice a week.
Pick hand creams that have SPF`s, the skin on hands have an equal chance of being exposed to the sun and its harmful rays, this might make hands super dry, the alcohol in the sanitisers might not react well with the heat of the sun as well. So, make sure to go for moisturisers that have SPF`s in them especially if you are wearing them during the day.
