Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As many as six security personnel deployed for election duty died in Uttar Pradeshs Mirzpur district on Friday due to suspected health-related issues, as per district health authorities. Polling in the Mirzapur Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled for Saturday (June 1), in the last phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha election. "A total of 23 jawans have come to us... 6 jawans have lost their lives... 2 jawans are in a serious condition. The deceased had a high-grade fever, their BP was extremely high, and their sugar levels were very high. There were chances of a brain stroke. I was told they had collapsed before being brought here... They were here on election duty," the Principal of a local medical college was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Several states have reported deaths both confirmed and suspected of being caused by the scorching heat prevalent in several parts of the country. On Friday, officials in Jharkhand said four people died due to heat stroke in various districts of the state. Heatwave In India: Four Die Of Heatstroke In Jharkhand "Four persons - three in Palamu and one in Jamshedpur - died of heatstroke in Jharkhand. These deaths did not occur in hospitals. As many as 1,326 people were admitted to hospitals in different districts of the state due to heat-related issues. Out of these, 63 are confirmed cases of heatstroke so far," Dr Alok Trivedi, Mission Director, National Health Mission (Jharkhand), was told PTI. Bihar Heatwave: Dozens Dead Amid Sweltering Temperatures In Bihar, more than 80 people have lost their lives in different districts of the state in the last three days amid an intense heatwave. Officials said that in the majority of the cases, postmortem reports of the deceased have not come as of yet. The maximum impact is being seen in Aurangabad where 19 have lost their lives. Earlier, on Thursday, the maximum temperature of Aurangabad reached 48.2 degrees Celsius. At least 200 people fell sick due to heatstroke in Aurangabad. Medical Officer of Sadar Hospital Abhishek Kumar said that about 200 patients who came to the hospital were all treated. "Due to the high number of patients, there was chaos in the hospital," he said. (With inputs from agencies)
