Bihar Heatwave: Heatstroke Claims Lives Of 14 People Including 10 Polling Workers Within 24 Hours

Bihar Heatwave:  In the past 24 hours, heatstroke has claimed the lives of 14 individuals in Bihar, including ten poll workers, officials said on Friday afternoon. The majority of the deaths were reported from Bhojpur, where five election officials died from heatstroke, according to a statement released by the Disaster Management Department. Three election officials died in Rohtas, and one each died in Kaimur and Aurangabad districts, it said. According to the report, four more people died in different regions of the state. According to the release, the procedure of giving ex-gratia to family members of the deceased has begun. The temperature in numerous locations in the state surpassed 44 degrees Celsius, leaving people reeling from the intense heat. The highest temperature was 47.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday in Buxar. In a post on X, the leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav said, When government-run schools have already been closed because of pressure from the opposition, why are teachers being asked to come to schools in this intense heat wave conditions? What will teachers do when students themselves are not in school? Teachers must be given leave in this scorching heat. Voting in eight of the 40 Lok Sabha seats is set to take place on Saturday. The elections were being conducted in seven phases.
