IPL 14 expected to resume on Sept 17 with 50% spectators, availability of foreign players a big concern

BCCI confirmed on May 29 that the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) will start in UAE in September. According to media reports, spectators can get entry to the stadium for the remaining 31 matches of the IPL.

Only those people who have taken both doses of Covid-29 will be allowed to watch the matches. According to the rules of the UAE government, 50 % of the spectators are allowed in the stadium.

This decision was taken at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Saturday, where the members unanimously agreed to resume the IPL.

Now it is reported that this tournament can start from 17 September and its final can be played on 10 October.

The remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 will be split into 10 double headers, 7 single headers and 4 playoffs, which will be fit into the 21-day window the BCCI hopes to create before the ICC T20 World Cup; however, sources have said that it will be difficult to bring back foreign players.

In this regard, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said that right now the BCCI is enquiring about the availability of their players from all the cricket boards. The BCCI has a good relationship with everyone. A solution will be found in the next few days. It is believed that the BCCI will release the schedule of the remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 in the next 10 days.
