The Maldives has imposed a travel ban on people coming from South Asian countries, including India, on Tuesday. The island country has temporarily suspended everyone's visa. This will have a major impact on cricket, as 39 Australian players, staff and umpires have been quarantined in the Maldives since the IPL was suspended.

At the same time, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey, who tested Covid-19 positive, was going to the Maldives after recovering. Hussey is currently undergoing treatment in Chennai. He was about to join the Australian players and staff in the Maldives after recovering. Tim Seifert of KKR is also undergoing treatment in Chennai; he will return to his county after recovering from Covid-19. Meanwhile, the rest of the NZ players, including New Zealand captain Ken Williamson, are currently in the Maldives. All these players will leave for the England tour next week.
