Woman power likely to come down in AP assembly

The move comes as the party president is moving Kovvur’s incumbent and minister K S Jawahar to Tiruvur in Krishna district. The women MLAs who have defected to TDP, including Uppuleti Kalpana (Pamarru) and V Rajeswari (Rampachodavaram), are waiting for TDP to give them a chance this time too. After winning on an YSRC ticket, some of the MLAs defected to TDP. They are unlikely to get nomination this time, where contests have become tougher.TDP is likely to shift Vangalapudi Anitha, who won Payakaraopet in Visakhapatnam in 2014, to Kovvur in West Godavari district. TDP also re-nominated two YSRC MLAs, Giddi Eswari and Gowru Charita Reddy from Paderu and Panyam segments respectively.However, names of minister Paritala Suneetha (Raptadu) and former ministers Peethala Sujatha (Chintalapudi) and Kimidi Mrunalini (Cheepurupalli) are also likely to be accommodated in the list.In YSRC, Nagiri MLA R K Roja is likely to get another opportunity.

Vijayawada: At a time when women are fighting for 33% reservation in legislative bodies, the fate of 20 women MLAs is uncertain as parties get down to clear names of candidates.Despite taking a cue from West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s promise of giving 40% seats to women candidates, the ruling and opposition parties in the state are finding it tough to re-nominate some of the women MLAs.In the outgoing assembly, TDP has 13 women MLAs out of 102 seats it had won while YSRC has 7 women MLAs out of 67. After winning on an YSRC ticket, some of the MLAs defected to TDP.
