Consultant held for cheating agents

Vadodara: A visa consultant from Punjab was nabbed for allegedly cheating a city-based travel agent of Rs 8.7 lakh in 2016. On the basis of the tip-off, a team of DCB sleuths reached Chandigarh and apprehended Singh. However, Singh did not send any documents and kept dilly dallying.Later on being asked to return the money, Singh transferred Rs 4.5 lakh by May 2018. When the remaining amount was not returned, Maurya approached the police and gave a complaint against Singh. Few days back, the detection of crime branch (DCB) had received information that Singh was in Chandigarh and was planning to leave the country.

The accused Parminder Singh was brought to city from Chandigarh before he was about to flee out of the country.The travel agent Vipin Maurya and his wife had come in touch with Singh when they were visiting the embassy of Georgia in June 2016. According to the complainant, Singh had offered to help the couple regarding any problem in getting Georgia’s visa.In September 2016, when six persons from city approached Maurya to get Georgia’s visa, Maurya collected Rs 3 lakh from each and contacted Singh. Maurya sent the visa aspirants’ documents and Rs 13.2 lakh in different amounts to Singh and he promised to process the work by January 2017.The accused sent four aspirants’ visa through WhatsApp and promised to send the physical copies within next four days. However, Singh did not send any documents and kept dilly dallying.Later on being asked to return the money, Singh transferred Rs 4.5 lakh by May 2018. When the remaining amount was not returned, Maurya approached the police and gave a complaint against Singh. Police said that they had been searching for Singh but he kept changing his location. Few days back, the detection of crime branch (DCB) had received information that Singh was in Chandigarh and was planning to leave the country. On the basis of the tip-off, a team of DCB sleuths reached Chandigarh and apprehended Singh.
