Udaipur to bring in ‘no-selfie zones’ soon

UDAIPUR: In a bid to strengthen safety at tourist spots, the Udaipur administration is all set to introduce ‘no-selfie zones’. The Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) and Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) would soon identify tourist hot spots in their limits and install signages prohibiting clicking of selfies.The decision was taken at a meeting of the district tourism development committee held at the Collectorate here on Tuesday wherein representatives of the departments concerned including tourism, UMC, UIT, transport and forest, etc., were present.“As an increasing number of people die due to selfie-related accidents, experts are recommending ‘no-selfie zones’ at tourist locations across the globe to prevent people from partaking in risky behaviour for the sake of the perfect photo. In Udaipur too, where thousands of tourists come every year, we have decided to introduce the concept to prevent selfie-related accidents,” said mayor Chandra Singh Kothari.Badi Lake, Sajjangarh, Gangaur Ghat, Maanji ka Mandir, Fatehsagar pal, etc., are the proposed sites where such signages would come up.According to experts, Udaipur being a tourist city with lots of water bodies and locations situated at a higher altitude, the risk of selfie-related accidents on a higher side.Youths can be spotted clicking selfies by the lake side and even trying to climb on the cement railings installed there.Other major decisions taken by the committee include deploying NCC cadets at tourist help centres, restarting the heritage walk project, making a transport master plan for tourists and residents inside the Walled City area, etc.
