JAIPUR: The tribal area development department has directed the tribal area commissionerate (Udaipur) to review all 37,000 rejected claims made by tribes under the Forest Regulation Act 2006.The move came a day after the Supreme Court stayed its previous order of eviction over a million tribals from the forest land, including one lakh from Rajasthan by July 26.The department has decided to provide a legal remedy by holding special camps in the tribal-dominated areas of those whose claims were rejected and also to create awareness among those who were left out. Meanwhile, the tribes have called off their statewide scheduled protest march and rallies and monitoring the situation.Minister tribal affairs, Arjun Singh Bamania told TOI, “The claims of those tribes which were rejected will be reviewed by the officials. They will segregate the rejected claims on the basis of the stage they were rejected. Our government is very serious about the issue and then we will ensure that no tribal will be denied of their land rights under the FRA.” The Supreme Court staying the eviction order has come as a face-saver for all the respective state governments as the tribal bodies had threatened to go all out till the order is scrapped. The FRA act grants land rights to tribal on two grounds: primarily residing in the forest and depending on the forest for livelihood in the last 75 years from the year 2006.Vela Ram Ghogra, state president of the Bhartiya Tribal Party told TOI, “The relief is temporary and the tribe will not rest till the rights are granted to all stakeholders. They have made the act but left the onus to claim the rights on poor tribal. Many of us don’t even know about the act till date.”For those have not proven their existence on the land in the last 75 years, the activist says that anthropology measures should be adopted to certify the case.
