They will be statistics and applied mathematics, tourism and hospitality management and geology.Though UGC has given its nod for starting six new courses , CUTN has decided to go ahead with three courses which are most sought-after. The university introduced seven departments last year and a diploma in performing arts. It is offering three undergraduate, six integrated five-year, one Postgraduate Diploma, 17 post graduate programmes.This year UGC has sanctioned six new departments- statistic & applied mathematics, tourism & hospitality management, law, geology, horticulture & floriculture and foreign languages. Three departments –statistic & applied mathematics, tourism & hospitality management and geology - have been launched this year. In all, CUTN offers 69 programmes.“CUTN is the only university among other central universities to get approval for six programmes from UGC and ministry of human resource development (MHRD),” said A Ragupathy, university controller of examination. “We have mathematics department. From this year, we will have a separate statistics department after receiving approval for postgraduate programmes on statistics and applied mathematics,” he said. While tourism and hospitality management has been popular over the recent years, geology has gained significance in the last two years.Students will have to take Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) to obtain admission to CUTN. Online applications are invited till April 13. CUCET 2019 will be held on May 25 and 26 this year in 120 centres across the country including the one in Tiruvarur.
