Trichy: A speed breaker was removed from the Podavur-Jeeyapuram Road near Andanallur while laying a fresh layer recently and since then the spot has become prone to accidents. School students and labourers from Podavur bus stop cross the road risking their lives. Last week, a school student suffered minor injuries after she was hit by a speeding load carrier.A couple of months ago, while relaying the Podavur-Jeeyapuram Road in Srirangam taluk, the state highways department has removed a speed breaker on the stretch. Though the traffic resumed after the work, local people said that the speed breaker was notreinstated at the spot. Meanwhile, an 8-year-oldgirl student of the Panchayat School was hit by a load carrier injuring her left leg. "Though we haverepresented our demand to install a speed breaker again on the road junction near the post office, nothing hashappened so far," V Baskaran, a resident of Vayalur Road said.Since the street are dim lit, the residents said that speeding vehicles in late hours fail to notice people crossing the road. A senior official with the state highways department had promised to install speed breakers at the required placed on Podavur Road.
