This would help the DMK alliance. However, the second largest population segment of Dalits will help the DMK alliance. Out of the 20 constituencies where DMK is contesting, there is a direct fight between DMK and AIADMK in eight segments.Meanwhile, DMK cadres from the Mayiladuthurai parliamentary constituency expressed joy as they have been allotted the seat after 28 years. This has made the party workers come together to work for the success of their candidate. Party chief M K Stalin has announced Thiruvidaimaruthur former MLA S Ramalingam as the candiadte for the constituency.“Party cadres are in a jubilant mood as the party has allotted the segment for themselves after 28 years.

Trichy: With both the ruling AIADMK and the DMK announcing the constituencies and candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, Mayliaduthurai is the only segment out of the six constituencies falling under the central region, which will witness both parties involved in a direct fight.AIADMK has fielded its candidates in four constituencies while the DMK has announced candidates for only two constituencies in the region, including Thanjavur. Out of the 20 constituencies where DMK is contesting, there is a direct fight between DMK and AIADMK in eight segments.Meanwhile, DMK cadres from the Mayiladuthurai parliamentary constituency expressed joy as they have been allotted the seat after 28 years. Party chief M K Stalin has announced Thiruvidaimaruthur former MLA S Ramalingam as the candiadte for the constituency.“Party cadres are in a jubilant mood as the party has allotted the segment for themselves after 28 years. This has made the party workers come together to work for the success of their candidate. Ramalingam had never involved in himself with any factional feud. That is his power. Cutting across the factions, party workers will definitely work for his success,” S Shankar, a resident of Mayiladuthurai said. The AIADMK on Sunday night announced the candidature of S Aasaimani from Mayiladuthurai.Mayiladuthurai constituency consists of Sirkazhi, Poompuhar, Mayiladuthurai, Papanasam, Poompuhar, Kumbakonam and Thiruvidaimaruthur assembly constituencies with a mix of traders, farmers, agriculture labourers and fishing community.Unlike 2014 general elections, Mayiladuthurai would witness a two-cornered contest between the DMK and the AIADMK. The 2014 election witnessed a five-cornered contest where Congress and the AIADMK fought alone, while the DMK contested in alliance with VCK, MMK, IUML and Puthiya Thamizhagam, the Third Front with the DMDK, PMK, BJP, MDMK and IJK and the the two Communist parties separately. However, in this election, the PMK, MDMK, BJP and Puthiya Thamizhagam have joined hands with AIADMK, while Congress, VCK, MDMK, Communist parties, IJK and Kongunadu Makkal Desiaya Katchi are with the DMK alliance. As far as AMMK is concerned the party is contesting on its own and has already announced its candidate – Nagapattinam North district secretary, S Senthamizhan.Since PMK is with AIADMK, the alliance is confident of garnering the votes of the Vanniyars, a dominant community. However, the second largest population segment of Dalits will help the DMK alliance. Moreover, Mani Shankar Aiyar has his own vote bank with highly literate and the poor. Kumbakonam, Papanasam, and Thiruvidaimaruthur also have considerable Congress loyalists. This would help the DMK alliance.
