THANE: As many as four trucks have toppled at the sharp turn near Gaimukh in the past two days making the situation grim for motorists, who use the stretch regularly.On Sunday morning, another truck toppled on the same turn and no one was reported injured in the accident . This truck was transporting coiled wires.A day before a container turned turtle on the stretch while on Friday, a cleaner died after a milk tanker he was in flipped to one side after its driver applied brakes to avoid collision.Prakash Patil, traffic police inspector, confirmed that nearly four trucks toppled at one spot and the fifth one a little ahead on the same stretch in the last two days.On the other hand, motorists are furious and blaming the authorities for not doing enough for their safety.Sushila Vishwanath, a daily commuter, said, “I wonder what the multiple agencies are waiting for. Almost everyday, I witness some or the other accident at the same spot, but the authorities seem to be turning a blind eye. They are probably waiting for bigger casualties to happen and then will work on solving the problem.”Another commuter Suhas Chaudhary, said, “I recently read that the contractor is planning to install road rumblers and blinkers to alert motorists about the sharp turn. I wonder what were they doing for so long. Will these help in reducing the accidents or are these being installed just to show that they are doing something?”
