BJP trying to play safe in HP, may retain sitting MPs

In Hamirpur parliamentary seat, party is all set to field sitting MP Anurag Thakur but former MP Suresh Chandel is also staking claim. He has already toured all the assembly constituencies under Shimla parliamentary seat. Ashray has already launched contact campaign in the constituency hoping that the party would consider his candidature. In case Shanta Kumar choses not to contest, then many names are emerging including Gaddi leader Trilok Kapoor, Vishal Chauhan, former minister Ravinder Ravi, Rajeev Bhardwaj and Indu Goswami. In Shimla (SC) parliamentary seat, H N Kashyap is one of the strong contenders for the BJP ticket and he hopes that survey conducted on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, which pitched him as a strong contender, would help him bag the ticket.

Shimla:Fearing squabbling within the party, the BJP is contemplating retaining most of its sitting MPs for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls though politically strong ticket aspirants is making the task challenging for the party.In Mandi parliamentary seat, while sitting MP Ram Swaroop Sharma is confident of getting the party’s mandate yet again but he is getting a run for his money from aspirants like Ashray Sharma, grandson of former union minister Sukh Ram. Ashray has already launched contact campaign in the constituency hoping that the party would consider his candidature. Party insider say if Ram Swaroop Sharma gets the ticket, it will have to face resentment from Sukh Ram camp.Mandi is a prestigious constituency for the party as its for the first time that a leader from the area, Jai Ram Thakur, was picked up as the Chief minister. Any squabbling her for tickets would not send right signals for the party,According to sources, the campaigning of Ashray Sharma in the constituency has left state leadership uncomfortable and his move is being seen as indiscipline by state leadership. Other contenders for the ticket include former MP Maheshwar Singh, Kargil war hero Brigadier Khushal Thakur, Ajay Rana and Praveen SharmaSenior leaders informed that during the core group meeting held in Baddi recently, it was decided to field the sitting MPs but leaders are concerned about the resentment that it might result into. In Shimla (SC) parliamentary seat, H N Kashyap is one of the strong contenders for the BJP ticket and he hopes that survey conducted on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, which pitched him as a strong contender, would help him bag the ticket. Another name emerging from Shimla seat is of employee Union leader Gopal Jhilta.In Kangra parliamentary seat, BJP is all set to field sitting MP and former chief minister Shanta Kumar while some are not happy with the decision as they feel Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha state president Vishal Chauhan should be given the chance this time. Such leaders feel that since BJP came to power, Chauhan has been ignored by party as he was not given the post of chairman or vice-chairman in any board or corporation and now once again being ignored in ticket from Kangra seat. In case Shanta Kumar choses not to contest, then many names are emerging including Gaddi leader Trilok Kapoor, Vishal Chauhan, former minister Ravinder Ravi, Rajeev Bhardwaj and Indu Goswami.
