Road, stadium named after PA Sangma on his 3rd death anniversary

USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque observed that PA Sangma was a visionary leader who was keen on nurturing young minds and talents from the region and had facilitated the setting up of several educational institutions to cater to the youth.The legendary PA Sangma had been elected for nine consecutive terms to the Lok Sabha from the prestigious Tura parliamentary constituency, which is considered a formidable political bastion of the Sangma family. Chief minister Conrad Sangma also spoke on the occasion and recollected the various contributions made by his late father not only for the welfare of the state but the northeast as a whole.The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) also organized a function at its Baridua campus today to pay tributes to the memory of late PA Sangma. The chief minister announced that the stadium would be suitably renovated into a full-fledged sports complex.State home minister James Sangma, who is eldest son of PA Sangma, and the veteran leader's widow Soradini K Sangma were present on the occasion besides state government officials and admirers of the late leader.On the other hand, the former Lok Sabha Speaker, who had also served as Union minister and chief minister of Meghalaya , was remembered through several programmes on his death anniversary across the state on Monday.Taking part at a memorial lecture at the district auditorium in Tura today, former chief minister DD Lapang, who paid rich tributes to the memory of PA Sangma, said, "He reached out to everyone". SHILLONG: A prominent stadium and an important road in the Garo Hills were formally dedicated to the memory of veteran leader Purno A'gitok Sangma on his 3rd death anniversary on Monday with chief minister Conrad Sangma unveiling plaques renaming the Dikki Bandi Stadium in Tura and the Araimile-Dakopgre-Walbakgre Road after his late father.Chief minister Conrad said that the renaming of the stadium and the 5-km stretch of the important road was a "befitting tribute" to the late leader as these were constructed under his initiative when he was a Member of Parliament.Conrad observed that despite limited resources in those days, his father had ensured that the stadium was completed on time in order to cater to the need of the people of the region.
