BEGUSARAI: BJP’s Begusarai Lok Sabha nominee Giriraj Singh put his foot in his mouth while sharing the dais with tainted former Bihar minister Manju Verma at a meeting, where he lashed out at his rival in the constituency Kanhaiya Kumar, former JNUSU president, who has been charged with sedition and is out on bail.Addressing a meeting of local NDA workers on Saturday to underline the strategy with which they would go for campaigning, Giriraj, in his own inimitable style, thundered: “My fight is against those in jail or out on bail.” The barb was obviously directed towards RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, who is serving jail sentence in fodder scam cases, and CPI nominee Kanhaiya, who is out on bail after being charged with sedition for “seeking” freedom for Kashmir from India.In his eagerness to attack the duo, Giriraj seemed completely oblivious to the fact that his companion on stage Manju Verma herself was out on bail. The Patna high court had recently granted her bail in an Arms Act case. Giriraj’s comments appeared to have caught the former minister completely unawares as she simply kept smiling while he was delivering his speech.The Arms Act case was registered against Manju and her husband Chandrashekhar Verma after a CBI team seized illegal cartridges of unauthorized bores from their Sripur house in Begusarai following a raid linked with the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual assault case. Manju had to resign as social welfare minister after her husband’s name cropped up in the shelter home case following accusations made by the wife of an accused in the same scandal. Call details of Muzaffarpur shelter home main accused Brajesh Thakur’s mobile phone allegedly carried Chandrashekhar’s name, prompting the CBI to conduct raids on various residences of the couple.Giriraj, however, remained unrelenting in his tirade against Kanhaiya. Later during the day, in an oblique comment directed towards him, he tweeted, “Our Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and BJP activists are distributing freedom at every nook and corner of Begusarai… Freedom from Maoists, freedom from Afzal Guru, freedom from terrorism, besides freedom from poverty.”
