54 polling booths to be relocated in four districts

“We have sent a proposal to state chief electoral officer after discussing the matter with political parties and other stakeholders. “Of the 11 dilapidated polling stations in the district, some are located at Imamganj, Sherghati, Belaganj and Barachatti. Of the 7,959 booths where polling will be held in the first phase, 1,923 are in Aurangabad, 3,108 in Gaya, 1,263 in Jamui and 1,665 in Nawada.Gaya DM Abhishek Singh said the new polling booths would be located closer to the dilapidated ones.

PATNA: The district administrations of Aurangabad, Gaya, Jamui and Nawada have sent a proposal to the state chief electoral officer to relocate 54 polling booths to other buildings as the existing buildings were either in a dilapidated condition or not meeting the basic requirements.The district electoral officers-cum-district magistrates of Aurangabad, Gaya, Jamui and Nawada – the four districts which will go to polls in the first phase on April 11 – are busy inspecting the polling booths in their respective districts.Of the 54 polling booths proposed to be shifted to other buildings, 11 are in Aurangabad, 13 in Gaya, 28 in Jamui and two in Nawada. Of the 7,959 booths where polling will be held in the first phase, 1,923 are in Aurangabad, 3,108 in Gaya, 1,263 in Jamui and 1,665 in Nawada.Gaya DM Abhishek Singh said the new polling booths would be located closer to the dilapidated ones. “Of the 11 dilapidated polling stations in the district, some are located at Imamganj, Sherghati, Belaganj and Barachatti. Most of them are community centres and we will relocate them to anganwadi centres and government schools in the same area,” Singh said.Nawada DM Kaushal Kumar said only two polling stations would be relocated to nearby buildings in Rajaouli and Nawada towns. “The administration will notify the voters about the change in polling stations after getting the consent from state chief electoral officer,” he added.District electoral officer of Jamui Gulab Lakara said steps were being taken to relocate 28 polling stations in the district.
