Noida: The Noida Authority that awarded a 10-year contract to Mumbai-based AG Enviro Infraprojects Private Limited last year for door-to-door collection of waste in the city, is still collecting garbage from most sectors in Noida. The reason, sources said, is that the company that started with five sectors (14, 15, 50, 137 and 49) and Aghapur village on January 24 this year, has so far expanded to only 41 sectors.Of the 600 tonne waste generated daily in the city, the firm is collecting 200 tonne and disposing it at a temporary dumping ground near Sector 145. The remaining 400 tonne is still being handled by the Noida Authority’s sanitation workers. A source from the firm said its work has slowed down after the model code of conduct came to effect.“We expanded to 18 sectors till March 3, after starting with five. After March 3, another 18 sectors were added taking the total to 41 sectors. We will be covering most sectors from April second week, once the election is over here, ” said Gaurav Kapoor, corporate development officer, AG Enviro Infraprojects Private Limited. The Rs 306 crore contract was given to the firm on September 6 last year. The company deploys nearly 110 people, including drivers, labours and supervisors, and 112 mini tippers, 10 dumper placers, seven mobile compactors and 50 cycle-rickshaws for collection and dumping of waste. “About 400 tonne of waste is still handled by Noida Authority’s sanitation workers. It will be taken over by us in a phased manner once we expand,” said Kapoor, adding that unsegregated waste is being collected. “Only few houses in Sector 14 have segregated waste,” Kapoor said.
