The school has also been asked to refund the excess fees, officials said.Despite repeated attempts, the Apeejay School management could not be contacted.The DFRC’s action came days after it had sought an explanation from the school in the wake of a complaint by the All Noida School Parents’ Association (ANSPA) last month for hiking the quarterly fees by nearly Rs 5,000 “in violation of the UP Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act, 2018”.“Since Apeejay School imposed the fee hike without permission from the fee regulation committee in violation of the act, we have imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the school so that it serves as an example to other schools of Noida as well,” district magistrate BN Singh, also the chairperson of the DFRC, told TOI.“The school has also been asked to refund the excess fees. Additionally, we have advised a review of the existing fee structure of the school to see if it matches with the norms of the UP fee regulation act. If it doesn’t, then an entire revision of the school’s fee structure will be advised,” said district inspector of schools PK Upadhay.ANSPA has welcomed the move. “We’ve submitted complaints from four Noida schools to the DFRC. The committee has taken a hard stance on Apeejay School, Noida ,” said Yatendra Kasana, the association president.“We hope that all private schools in the city will regulate their fee structure in the session of 2019-20,” he added.Some 139 schools in Noida and Greater Noida come under the UP fee regulation act. It covers all private schools affiliated to any board, including Uttar Pradesh State Education Board, CBSE, ICSE or any school with international affiliations as well which have an annual fee structure exceeding Rs 20,000.
