Retired defence clerk detained for using fake identity

NASHIK: The Deolali Camp police in the city have detained a retired defence clerk for staying at the army officers’ mess using a fake identity.The concerned person has been identified as Virendra Singh (58), a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh . However, he retained his I-card and even tampered it.From March 12 to March 14, he stayed at the army officers’ mess, assuming the identity of a senior army officer. Police said that Singh stayed at the army officers’ mess between March 12 and 14 masquerading as a colonel. The matter came to light after Singh went to meet a senior official at Air Force Station, Deolali.The security in-charge at Air Force Station, Deolali, allowed Singh inside the Air Force Station campus after the latter introduced himself as a colonel, army headquarters. Singh also told the security in-charge that he wanted to meet the AOC of the air force station to organise a camp for defence employees and officials in share trading and mutual fund policies.

Police said that Singh had no intention to carry out anti-national activity, but they would interrogate him during his police remand till March 18.According to the Deolali Camp police, Singh worked as a clerk in the Ministry of Defence in Delhi and retired in 2015. However, he retained his I-card and even tampered it.From March 12 to March 14, he stayed at the army officers’ mess, assuming the identity of a senior army officer. The matter came to light after Singh went to meet a senior official at Air Force Station, Deolali.The security in-charge at Air Force Station, Deolali, allowed Singh inside the Air Force Station campus after the latter introduced himself as a colonel, army headquarters. Singh also told the security in-charge that he wanted to meet the AOC of the air force station to organise a camp for defence employees and officials in share trading and mutual fund policies.
