Nashik: The residents of Satana demanded that the drinking water from Chankapur Dam be released immediately. The Satana Municipal Council has been supplying water through tankers.“There is a demand for releasing water from the Chankapur Dam for Satana town. The major problem is not the current shortage of water, but the crisis that could be witnessed during the months of May and June, when the demand would be at its peak,” Ramdas Khedkar, resident deputy collector, Nashik said.There have been several agitations in the town demanding release of water for drinking purpose, which is due on March 27. “There is acute shortage of water in the town. The rotation being planned by district administration is on March 27. The wells have gone dry. The tankers are now supplying water for drinking purpose. It is not possible to the carry on with the current situation,” said Kashinath Deore, a resident of Satana.The officials from the council pointed out that the council was dependent on the wells in Thengoda water diversion weir, which have less storage area. The water pipeline scheme from Punad project in Kalwan has just begun. It will take some time for completion.“The town with the population of about 20,000 people. We have requested the administration to release water for us,” sources from the council said.
