Mangaluru: A 45-year-old man, who was on the run for the past 15 years in a hit-and-run case, was arrested on Wednesday.The accused, Suresh Nair , is originally from Kasaragod district in Kerala . Police said he was arrested from Purshura Katte in Puttur , where he was working as a daily wage labourer. They said prima facie, it appears that he either committed suicide or accidentally slipped into the water. According to the police, he died any time within the span of 24 hours, starting Tuesday morning.

He was produced before the court.Police said Nair was booked under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The case was declared a long-pending case in 2010.Body found in riverThe body of an unidentified man was found near the banks of the Nethravati river at Jain Pete under the Bantwal police station limits on Wednesday morning.Police said the man appeared to be between 65 and 70. According to the police, he died any time within the span of 24 hours, starting Tuesday morning. They said prima facie, it appears that he either committed suicide or accidentally slipped into the water. An investigation is on.
