Ludhiana: The Ludhiana unit of the Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man — identified as Harvinder Singh (37) of CRPF Colony in Dugri — for drug peddling, and recovered 70g heroin from his possession on Saturday. The accused stated that he worked for a Patiala-based weekly newspaper. He also had a ‘press’ sticker pasted on his motorcycle. The STF was verifying if he really worked for the newspaper, or had procured a fake identity card.In-charge of STF, inspector Harbans Singh, said STF had arrested Harvinder from near the Dugri flyover at Southern Bypass, following a tip-off. Besides recovering the heroin from his possession, STF also recovered an identity card of Shaheed-E-Azam (a weekly newspaper) from his possession. The cops are contacting the newspaper’s editor to check if the card is fake or issued by the group.The official added that Harvinder was also a drug addict, and had been smuggling drugs for the past one year. The STF produced him before the court on Sunday, which remanded him to one-day custody with STF for further investigation.
