Marathon organised to spread voter awareness

Top 10 position holders in the marathon were selected for prize money.In boys’ marathon, the first position was grabbed by Gurwinder Singh of Khanna who won prize money of Rs 15,000. While for boys, 10km marathon was organised, for girls the length of the track was 5km. Ludhiana: Ludhiana administration in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections organised a marathon at Punjab Agriculture University to motivate residents, especially youngsters, to caste their vote. Gurwinder said he plans to support his family with the prize money and added that he has been practising since the last five years and had participated in several others marathon before too. Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal said that the marathon also aims at spreading the message of being fit and healthy.Students and teachers of several schools and colleges participated in the marathon which was held in two phases for boys and girls.

The second and third position which had prize money of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000 were grabbed by Robin Singh and Sunil Bind, respectively.In girls’ marathon, Parveen Kaur stood first, whereas the second and third position holders were Lovepreet Kaur and Usha, respectively.Assistant commissioner of MC Jasdev Sehhkon said, “These kind of activities should be conducted to motivate youngsters to participate in sports and also help them realise their responsibility towards the nation.”Vinay Kumar, one of the participants in the marathon, said he was really excited for the marathon and added that such events should be conducted across the city so that the youngsters can participate and showcase their talent.Apart from the marathon, the authorities had also set up stalls of VVPAT machine and showed to the first-time voters how to caste their vote.
