Braveheart’s daughter faints after lighting pyre

KANPUR: Martyred CRPF jawan Pradeep Singh Yadav’s 10-year-old daughter Supriya could not bear the agony after lighting the pyre and fainted at the spot. The mourners in the procession increased to thousands as they moved on raising slogans.A group of 30 CRPF jawans, who had accompanied the mortal remains of Pradeep, gave a gun salute while ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ slogans were raised by the crowds who had assembled to pay homage to the martyr.The atmosphere turned poignant when Supriya started crying, asking CRPF men, “Will papa come home again, where is he going?” and fainted soon after lighting the pyre.“Terrorists should not be spared for killing our soldiers,” said Pradeep’s father Amar Singh.UP ministers Archana Pandey and Sandeep Singh, along with MLAs, district magistrate and superintendent of police were present during the last rites. The CRPF jawans standing nearby caught her and rushed her to the nearby community health centre.“The girl recovered after primary treatment and was later sent home after an hour,” said a doctor at the CHC.In the morning, Pradeep’s body wrapped in a tricolour was brought to his native village Ajan Sukhsenpur in Kannauj in a special truck, accompanied by a senior officer of CRPF and 30 jawans, senior district and police officials, local representatives and a large number of people.Supriya’s grandfather Amar Singh, a retired deputy jailer, grandmother Sarojini, mother Neeraj, younger brother Kuldeep, and other family members were inconsolable as the funeral procession left for the cremation ground on Saturday.Both men and women wept bitterly as the martyr’s body was carried towards the cremation ground for last rites.
