Business community slams govt on industrial progress

JAMSHEDPUR: Traders and entrepreneurs from Kolhan division on Wednesday criticised the Raghubar Das government on a range of issues. Practically nothing has improved,” said Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Deepak Bhalotia. “In fact, five days ago we had organized investment facilitating programme at Auto Cluster in Adityapur to address the bottlenecks relating to investment proposals of Momentum Jharkhand and what we received there were petty problems related to administrative follow-ups,” he said, inviting industry people to approach him directly if there’s any issue. Accusing the government of indulging in hype instead of improving basic facilities at the ground level, the business community said there has been no significant development in the trade and industry sector in the state over the last four years .During an interaction session with former chief minister Arjun Munda , representatives of the various business bodies said they are not satisfied with the claims of the state government.“After the Global Investors’ Summit in February 2017, at least four ground-breaking ceremonies were held in the state, including one in Jamshedpur, but nothing encouraging is visible on the ground as far as investments are concerned. He added: “Least of all, the Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority does not even have a full-time managing director.”Laghu Udyog Bharati general secretary Hansraj Jain said their attempts to have a dialogue with the CM, who holds the industries and energy portfolio, failed in the last four years.Noting that no new big industry has come to the region in the last four years, Jain said: “I would request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that CMs do not hold the industry portfolio as they do not have time to sort out the issues facing the department.”Entrepreneur Krishna Bhalotia said: “BJP had a long time in power, but the condition of power distribution in the industrial area and the condition of the Ranchi-Jamshedpur national highway (33) speaks volumes about governance.” He also said corruption in bureaucracy has increased in the last five years.Hotelier Prabhakar Singh said: “Despite our repeated demands, the state government has refrained from giving industry status to tourism sector.” Similarly, a few other businessmen, who were invited for an interaction session with Arjun Munda as part of the Bharat Ke Man Ki Baat programme, sounded critical of the state government.Munda played down the complaints of the businessmen and said: “Issues taken up here will be conveyed to the state government.”Industry director Zeeshan Quamer said he has no idea if any industry body has given representation to the department on issues pertaining to difficulties in executing business plan in Adiyapur Industrial Area in the last few months.
