Indore: The valuation of loss caused to nature in the Choral range due to felling of trees illegally has been re-evaluated in second inspection. Now, the loss has reduced to Rs 6.10 lakh from Rs 15.97 lakh. Recovery notices have been sent to over a dozen of beat guards, foresters, deputy ranger and ranger posted in the area in this regard. The report of the second inspection was also sent to higher officials in the protection wing. Action is being taken by Indore divisional forest officer in accordance to the second report as per which the ranger was liable to pay for the losses.“We have issued show-cause notices for recovery and are waiting for reply from the forest workers, who have been found responsible,” Indore DFO MS Sisodia said. The second inspection was ordered following a complaint made to Indore chief conservator of forests regarding irregularities in addition of loss of 441 trees in the Choral range. The complainants had claimed that out of 441 tree stumps and timber, all of them had been counted on a higher girth class, whereas their valuation had to be done as per the lower girth class. Hence as per the lower girth class, the value reduced from Rs 15.97 lakh to Rs 14.25 lakh.It was also claimed that 177 stumps were wrongly added in the count. Regarding the remaining 264 logs of trees counted as ‘loss’ the workers had claimed that the value of seized logs from the location were not counted and the value of logs whose cases were registered under the unregistered category had also not been deducted from total ‘loss’.The investigation team found that claims of irregularities regarding 440 logs of wood and stumps were true. The team also found that 177 logs were incorrectly added in the count and hence their value of Rs.3.13 lakh was reduced from the total evaluated loss. The team also found that the logs of 231 trees were seized from the spot and hence their value of Rs 3.10 lakh was directed to be reduced from the total loss. Lastly, the trees which were seized but their cases were registered under unidentified category, were also counted out from the losses, further reducing Rs1.89 lakh from the total losses. The amount reduced from the total loss was Rs. 8.14 lakh, leaving the freshly evaluated loss amount at Rs 6.10 lakh.
