INDORE: To compel iron traders to shift to new market, 11 shops at Loha Mandi, Hathipala and Gadi Adda areas were sealed on Saturday for non-payment of property tax and goods kept on roads were seized. Traffic police also started imposing fines on drivers of heavy vehicles entering the restricted area at old Loha Mandi.The drive was jointly carried out by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and administration. Police force was also present at the spot during the drive as the traders started arguing with the civic body and administrative officials over the removal action.“The action was taken against traders, who were not shifting to new mandi in Niranjanpur where IDA has allotted plots. There are many traders who were not willing to shift to new market,” SDM Shashwat Sharma said.The new place lacks basic amenities like street lights, security, claimed traders. There are over 800 iron traders in the city of which only 323 have been given plots in the new mandi.“Apart from the issue of shifting the traders, the road in the area were also encroached upon by traders who had kept heavy iron goods outside the shops and it was causing traffic congestion. IMC has also carried out the drive to clear the roads,” IMC deputy commissioner MS Chouhan said.
