5000 women expected at city Pinkathon in October

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati leg of the third edition of Pinkathon on October 15 is expected to draw more than 5,000 women this year. "Being a cancer survivor I feel encouraged to take part in an event like Pinkathon that gives a special platform not only to women cancer survivors but also sends a message about women's empowerment. I support this noble cause and will be taking part in the run," said Monali Bharadwaj, a cancer survivor. The marathon is about drawing society's attention to women's health, empowerment and her role. Other activities would include Cancer Shero Trek for inspiring people and commemorating them with a special 'I Inspire Medal'.

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati leg of the third edition of Pinkathon on October 15 is expected to draw more than 5,000 women this year. Milind Soman, founder of India's biggest Women's Run, said this on Tuesday.The eight-city event that has witnessed the participation of 85,000 women of all ages across different walks of life, is aimed at drawing society's attention towards women's health, particularly in breaking societal taboo associated with menstrual hygiene and breast cancer Soman announced the launch of the third edition of Pinkathon in the presence of local celebrities from the fields of cinema, media, social services and sports. "Pinkathon is not just about one specific disease. The marathon is about drawing society's attention to women's health, empowerment and her role. It is an inclusive event that gives a call to every woman," said Soman, adding that there can be no empowerment if the woman has not taken control of her health.The Guwahati Pinkathon will comprise a 3km, a 5km, a 10km multi-category run and a 21km run. This year the event has already been held in cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai.The marathon will be preceded by pre-event activities like training runs for to-be mothers, first time women runners and cancer survivors.
