Gurugram mob attack: Family decides to stay, seeks police cover

GURUGRAM: Days after it said it was planning to leave over safety concerns, the Muslim family allegedly attacked by a mob in Bhondsi’s Bhoop Singh Nagar following a dispute over a cricket match on March 21 has decided to stay back. “Rajkumar was assaulted with a cricket bat and knife and he sustained serious injuries. “They have invested so much in building this house and they have their business here. It is apt for Section 307 (attempt to murder),” he said. How can they leave this place?” he said, adding that they have requested police to provide adequate security.Roshan Bhadana, counsel for the accused, said residents of Nayagaon had been booked for attempt to murder and the same section should be applied to the cross-FIR.

However, it has asked police to provide more protection.Their relatives — from Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Barot, Ghaziabad and New Delhi — arrived in Gurugram on Saturday to support them, and plan to camp here till things are back to normal.Police, meanwhile, arrested two more accused, identified as Lekhan and Sandeep, both in their early 20s and residents of Nayagaon, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 13. “During the investigation two new names came up,” a senior police officer said, adding that all the accused have been sent to judicial custody.Two days ago, police had filed a cross-FIR against two members of the Muslim family — Mohammed Abid and Aamir Khan, both in their early 20s — for initiating the attack and assaulting Rajkumar, which allegedly led to the mob attack . No one from the minority family has been arrested till now in connection with the cross-FIR.“We will not leave, many of our relatives have joined us,” Mohammad Dilshad said, adding that the family had built the house with their hard-earned money and will not leave it.Arif, one of the nearly 50 “close” relatives who reached Bhondsi , said it had been decided after discussions that the family will stay back. “They have invested so much in building this house and they have their business here.
