Gurgaon: Following interrogation and confessions of five members of Joginder Panchi’s gang that kidnapped a young doctor on March 16, the special task force of Haryana Police is now looking for more victims. Cops suspect the gang may have carried out similar abductions in the past that were never reported. The gang members were arrested by the STF recently for allegedly kidnapping the Gurgaon doctor — son of Pushpanjali Hospital’s owner — posing as members of dreaded Kaushal gang, and extracting a ransom of Rs 55 lakh from him. They had spotted the young doctor parking his expensive car in an isolated place near a hotel in Sector 29.“The gang had set a pattern — it would abduct people, withdraw money from ATMs using their debit cards, and get families of the victims pay ransom in some cases. Ironically in a number of cases, the victims never approached police. We thus appeal to people to come forward,” said a senior officer of STF.STF officials say their biggest road block is the victims’ reluctance to move police. “A case has come to light. The gang held a Delhi resident captive in his sedan and later took a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from his family. However, the victim had neither lodged a police complaint nor admitted to paying the ransom,” the officer said.In another case, the gang members confessed to abducting a man from outside his home in Gurgaon Sector 23 and releasing him after getting a ransom. “But here also, there is no police complaint to corroborate the confession or the crime,” he added.Meanwhile, arrested national-level hockey player Joginder Panchi has reportedly told police they were planning to acquire automatic guns with the ransom money they got from the Gurgaon doctor. “Gurgaon is best place to find easy targets. The moment we got Rs 55 lakh, we decided to buy weapons that would give us an edge over other gangs.”
