HISAR: Use of drugs only strengthens the hands of terrorists as it is anti-national and anti-social elements who control narcotics trade and use the money thus earned to buy arms and ammunition which are used to kill our soldiers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who addressed the ‘Drug Free India’ campaign via tele-conferencing on Tuesday.An initiative of the Art of Living Foundation, the campaign was launched at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) campus here. Chief minister Manohar Lal also attended the programme, which was presided over by Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. On the occasion, GJU honoured Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with the title of doctorate of science, which was conferred in Septemebr 2016.Modi said people consuming drugs are unknowingly helping those who are involved in the killing of our brave soldiers. “Drug traders are in contact with foreign forces, who try to undermine the country’s youth and its economic strength,” he said. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, about 30 million people in the world are in the grip of drugs, he added. In India, there was 60% jump in the number of people dying of drug-related issues between 2000 and 2015.Khattar said his government had constituted a special task force (STF) in January 2018 to go after drug dealers and opened 61 drug deaddiction centres, in which 25,000 youths were treated for their addiction last year.“If consuming drugs made life happy, I would have also taught the same to everyone. To those who say Lord Shiva also takes bhang (cannabis), my only question is, has anyone seen him doing that. And then, why forget that he (Shiva) had also taken poison ,” said Sri Sri. The real fun in life is in consciousness. The youth of Punjab and Haryana used to be so strong that they used to protect the country, but consuming drugs has spoiled their condition (mental and physical), he added.On March 10, from 7am to 8am, all the cities would organise a run for ‘Drug Free India’, he said.
