GURUGRAM: Discom DHBVN has asked residents not to tamper with the pits dug for laying cables under the Smart Grid project.There have been numerous complaints from residents of various parts of the city that digging work has led to several cave-ins.Many such cases have recently been reported from sector 5 and 14 and Sushant Lok 1 . “A road caved along the road from Paras Gate to Peach Tree last week. I am shocked at the shoddy work and damage done by DHBVN under the Smart Grid project,” said Neelu Sharma, a resident of Sushant Lok 1.Meanwhile, discom officials said cable laying work is yet to be completed in many parts of the city, and the pits will be covered only after that. DHBVN has also received complaints from many that their staffers were throwing soil from the pits on to roads and footpaths across the city.“The pits haven’t been covered properly. Cable laying will happen in two stages. First, the machine drills the road and the pipes are inserted. In the second stage, the power cables are laid down in the pipes. Until we do that, we can’t cover the pits fully, so they have been covered temporarily. Once the lines are put, we will cover them,” said Vineeta Singh, superintending engineer, Smart City project, Gurugram.“Residents mistake this temporary cover for the permanent one and complain that pits are not being fixed properly. We have told residents before that they must wait for some time. All of them will be covered properly,” she added.
