Ghaziabad to have 80,000 more voters this Lok Sabha poll, 22,000 of them first-timers

According to the election officer, more names will be added over the next few months.Though elections are not held every year, voters’ lists are updated at regular intervals. According to figures updated till January 22, 84,577 new voters have been added to the list so far, which roughly translates to a 3.21% rise in electors as compared to last year.

In 2018, the total number of voters registered with the election office was 26,31,294, which included 14,74,420 male voters and 11,56,757 female. As on January 22 this year, the figure has increased to 27,15,871 voters, with men accounting for 15,13,963 and female voters 12,01,705.The Ghaziabad parliamentary seat has six Assembly constituencies — Loni, Muradnagar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Dhaulana (partial).“If we look at the rise in voters in each Assembly constituency, the Loni constituency has registered a maximum increase in electors, which stands at 5.48% as compared to last year,” said Hare Krishna Sharma, the election officer. The Loni constituency has added 25,279 voters this year.Loni was followed by the Dhaulana (partial) Assembly constituency in terms of the number of new voters compared to last year. “The Dhaulana (partial) Assembly constituency has so far added 5,186 new voters but in terms of percentage, it is 4.83%, followed by Sahibabad constituency, which has registered 3.24% rise in electors,” said Sharma.Likewise Ghaziabad, Muradnagar and Modinagar also registered increase in voters by 2.85%, 1.93% and 1.60%, respectively.“Apart from this, the number of first-time voters between the age group of 18 and 19 years has also increased by 22,241. This is expected to go up in the days to come as we are still in the process of receiving more forms,” the electoral officer said.In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s VK Singh had emerged victorious, securing 56.50% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Congress’s Raj Babbar, who secured 14.24% of the votes.
