Eight die due to virus in Haryana in four months

CHANDIGARH: Swine flu has claimed eight lives in the past four months in Haryana. Report on six other suspected swine flu deaths are still awaited. Total 72 samples were tested for Swine Flu. Jind saw two deaths, while swine flu claimed a life in Fatehabad. Gurgaon has reported four confirmed cases of swine flu till January 16.Health department officials said the state saw six more deaths, but their reports are awaited.

CHANDIGARH: Swine flu has claimed eight lives in the past four months in Haryana. Report on six other suspected swine flu deaths are still awaited. Besides this, 168 people have tested positive for H1N1 influenza during this period.The total number of deaths from H1N1 in 2018-19 in the state so far is 14.According to the data provided by the office of director general of health services (DGHS), Hisar district was the worst affected with five deaths and 71 cases. Bhiwani and Faridabad districts reported 37 and 21cases, respectively. Jind saw two deaths, while swine flu claimed a life in Fatehabad. Gurgaon has reported four confirmed cases of swine flu till January 16.Health department officials said the state saw six more deaths, but their reports are awaited. “This is a weatherrelated problem. We have taken adequate measures. Our directors and civil surgeons concerned are continuously monitoring the situation,” said Haryana’s health minister Anil Vij.Since 2012, Haryana has seen 97 such deaths with 2015 being the worst year when 45 deaths and 420 cases were reported.“We have directed the civil surgeons to ensure that they have records of each suspected case of their districts. They have been told to rope in private institutions as well,” said a senior DG-level officer in the health department.Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh till January 15 has reported two swine flu deaths from Una district while 11 cases have been tested positive including 8 from Kangra district , one from Solan district and two from Una district. Total 72 samples were tested for Swine Flu.
