Dalit kids’ murder: 3 years on, CBI yet to file closure report

CHANDIGARH: Three years after two Dalit children were burnt to death at Sunpedh village in Haryana’s Faridabad district, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to file a closure report against 12 accused, including a juvenile, who were arrested during investigation by the Haryana police During resumed hearing of the case in the court of Kapil Rathi, special CBI magistrate in Panchkula, the CBI submitted that it has filed a closure report in the juvenile court against the juvenile accused and wants to file a closure report against the remaining 11 accused during the next hearing of the case.Defence counsel Abhishek Singh Rana said the CBI did not find anything against these accused and will now file a closure report.

Those arrested include Adal Singh Rawat, Desh Raj, Naunihal, Joginder, Jagat, Aman, Akash, Balwant, Sanjay, Dharam Singh, Kartar and a juvenile.The case against the 11 accused is going on in Panchkula CBI court while the minor boy is being tried at Faridabad juvenile court.Jitender Kumar, the victims’ father, had alleged that people from an upper caste community had barged into his house at 3 am on October 20, 2015, poured petrol through a window in the room where he and his wife were sleeping with their two children, and set it ablaze.However, those arrested in the case had claimed a frame-up, saying they were witnesses in a case of murder of three Rajput men in which 11 Dalits were accused.On October 5, 2014, three members of the Rajput community— Indraj, Mohan Lal and Bharat Pal — were killed in a fight with Dalits over a mobile phone. Jitender’s two brothers are accused in the case. The CBI had lodged an FIR on October 29, 2015 under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, on the basis of an FIR registered by the local police on the request of the Haryana government.
